DIY SOS #DoesSomethingGreat

DIY SOS #DoesSomethingGreat

Last night we saw members of our Morris PropertyJoinery and Site Machinery teams on screen as they joined an emotional DIY SOS story in Shropshire.

More than 100 volunteers rallied together for the programme to transform the home and lives of ex- firefighter Joe Grafton and his daughter Lucy from Craven Arms. Volunteers and tradesmen from businesses across Shropshire and the surrounding counties worked together to offer labour, materials and machinery over the project’s nine day timeframe.

Joe’s story touched the hearts of those involved, as well as viewers. It was inspirational to see the strength he had in dealing with the loss of his wife, who was clearly still a huge part of their lives, and his sense of duty to finish the house in her memory. In the programme led by Nick Knowles, we also heard heart-warming stories from other volunteers who had gone through their own tough times and had felt a connection to Joe’s story.

When the house was revealed at the end of the programme the results were beyond belief and Joe delivered a heart-felt and thought-provoking speech thanking the community and volunteers for their support.

As a business, it was a great honour to be part of something so life changing for such a deserving family, especially when it involved so many people coming together with a combined purpose. If you didn’t see the episode last night, it really is worth a watch and can be found on BBC iPlayer.
